Austin is the third-largest city in the United States and the third-largest state capital. It’s no secret that Austin is a great place to be. More people are moving here every day, and that growth isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Austin houses for sale are still a very active market. Right now it could be a great time to buy. However, if you aren’t ready to move to Austin just yet, you must visit, and here are a few reasons why.

Music

Music is the heart and soul of Austin. The city rightfully earned the slogan Live Musical Capital of the World in 1991, when music critics discovered Austin had more live music performances per capita than anywhere else in the nation. In every other city, travelers are welcomed with a playlist over the PA system. In Austin, your live music immersion begins as soon as you deplane. On weekday afternoons, several shops and restaurants at Austin’s airport host live bands, and most of the musicians are local acts.

Barton Springs Pool

Nestled in Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool is a favorite locale among visitors and residents alike. Native American settlers once believed the springs possessed spiritual healing powers, and professional travel writers still refer to Barton Springs as the “soul of Austin” and many visitors say it’s an ideal spot to cool off in the summer. Formed from underground springs, the 3-acre pool consistently stays between 68 and 70 degrees – perfect for a respite from the sweltering summer temperatures Texas is known for. The grounds also feature bathhouses and an educational exhibit about the history and biology of Barton Springs.

Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum

One of the most visited attractions in Austin, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum boasts more than 45 million pages of historical documents and papers from President LBJ’s lengthy career. The museum contains exhibits relating to the president’s time in office, as well as important issues of the day, including the rise of the civil rights movement. Also of interest is an impressive scale replica of the Oval Office as it would have been during Johnson’s presidency, and many temporary exhibits related to American history are hosted throughout the year.

Food Scene

When it comes to good eats, Austin is the place. From world-renowned chefs to taco joints and food trucks, the city is a foodie adventurer’s paradise. A great way to navigate the diverse food scene is to check out the myriad of Austin’s artfully decked-out food trucks. It’s hard to imagine that a city this size actually has over 1,000 mobile restaurants. From donuts to vegan bites and barbeque to Peruvian delights, whatever food you’re craving, you’ll find it here somewhere.
