Makeup is something which isn’t just fun but can be used as a tool for many professions.  Many people find themselves ready to start diving into the world of makeup application but aren’t sure where to begin.

In order to be able to do the best job possible, it’s important to have all of the tools in front of you before you get started.  Here are some of the best tips to guide you as you learn the ropes of wearing makeup.

Get Quality Materials

It’s important to set yourself up for success by using the proper materials.  If you use poor quality supplies as opposed to buying quality materials, you’ll find that you won’t like the outcome nearly as much.

Cheap makeup and tools will be much harder to apply and blend.  While it’s not crucial to go out and buy the most expensive brands on the market, in the beginning, it’s in your favor to buy at least mid-level quality to ensure that you can improve your skills.

Try to stay away from drugstore brands, and try visiting somewhere like Sephora.  You can find a variety of pricing there from the lower end all the way to professional grade.

Watch YouTube Videos

The internet is your best friend when it comes to learning how to apply makeup.  There are all sorts of free videos out there which will teach you the basics of wearing makeup.

Watching these videos will teach you the ins and outs of what works and doesn’t work when applying makeup.  You can start to visit various makeup artists and decide which one resonates best with what you’re after once you’ve viewed several.

You’ll find that not all tutorials are created equal and that some of them you won’t understand or like at all.  Whereas others will not only teach you skills, but you will feel creatively inspired to create something original.

Wash Your Face and Tools

One of the biggest rookie mistakes that you can make is failing to properly wash your face after wearing makeup.  It can be easy to go straight to bed in the beginning without washing off your makeup that you’ve been wearing all day.

As a result, you will clog your pores and potentially set yourself up for a big breakout.

Less Is More

As you first get started you may want to move quickly and advance to some of the heavier looks that you will discover.

However, it’s best to start slow when you get started and remember that less is more. You can start adding more once you become more advanced.  Otherwise, you may run the risk of looking like a clown or child.
